About the Role
The Executive Director (ED) provides visionary leadership, ensuring alignment with Greenpeace’s core values. Reporting to the Board, the ED oversees governance, human resources, financial sustainability, and external relations. They will also play a key role in maintaining ethical fundraising strategies, ensuring Greenpeace Belgium’s independence from corporate and government funding.
Key Responsibilities
● Provide leadership, vision and strategic direction to the organisation in accordance with Greenpeace’s core values and purpose and in co-operation with Greenpeace International.
● Foster a transparent and collaborative leadership style, promoting shared governance and nurturing a positive, inclusive culture.
● Be responsible for the management and administration of Greenpeace Belgium and work with the board to ensure proper governance and accountability.
● Lead and inspire all members of staff (about 70) and volunteers.
● Manage and lead the management team (three directors).
●Monitor and steer the effectiveness of Greenpeace Belgium in its vital functions (campaign & actions, communication & mobilisation, fundraising, human resources and finance).
● Represent Greenpeace nationally and internationally.
● Be responsible for well-being and protection at work, social dialogue, (e.g: CPPW chair).

Proven leadership experience in complex, mission-driven environments.
Strong strategic management skills to ensure sustainable development and oversee multiple projects.
Financial literacy and budget oversight.
Experience in organisational development and change management.
Ability to inspire and mobilise teams towards shared goals.
Ability to drive digital transformation across operations.
People & Culture
Empathetic and inclusive people management skills.
Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and safety (JEDIS).
Capacity to foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable organisational culture.
Demonstrated resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
Strong governance, stakeholder management, including Board relations.
Strategic planning expertise.
Unquestionable personal integrity and ethical leadership.
Sector Knowledge & External Awareness
Deep understanding of the NGO sector, including its operational and funding dynamics.
Awareness of regional, national, and global political contexts.
Understanding of ethical fundraising principles and donor engagement.
Communication & Language
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Fluency in English and in at least one of the two national languages (French or Dutch), with a good command of the other or willingness to improve.
